The Royal Suite
Our largest chamber — hand-carved khatamband ceiling, a private lake-facing verandah and a sitting room dressed in Kashmiri silk carpets.
- Sleeps
- 3 guests
- Beds
- 1 king + 1 day bed
- Size
- 42 m²
- Outlook
- Lake on three sides
The Royal Suite occupies the front third of the boat, which means water on three sides and the Pir Panjal filling the bay window from the moment you wake. It is the room the family kept for itself for two generations before we began letting it.
The ceiling is khatamband — several hundred small pieces of walnut interlocked into a geometric pattern and fitted without a single nail, so it flexes with the boat instead of cracking. The carpet is a hand-knotted silk Kashan, and the papier-mâché panels along the walls were painted in Downtown Srinagar in the 1960s.
A private verandah runs off the bedroom with two cane chairs and a low table, which is where most guests end up taking breakfast. Butler service is included: press the bell and someone will bring kahwa, refill the bukhari, or call the shikara round.
